Sermon Notes:
- The story of the birth of Christ is neither nostalgic nor sentimental.
- Likewise, the book of Revelation is a very stark and real depiction of the spiritual realities in the church and in history.
- The conflict between the Serpent and the Seed of the woman is finalized in the birth of Jesus (cf. Gen. 3:15).
- Revelation 12 gives us real cause for celebration because it tells us that the Seed of the woman has come and conquered the Dragon.
- We finish the year and begin the new year meditating on the victory of Christ.
- The victory of Christ is for us, over us, and through us.
- Christ is victorious for us, having cast down the accuser of the brethren, delivering us from the power of Satan (Heb. 2:14-15 ; Rev. 12:10; Col. 2:13-14).
- Christ is victorious over us, bringing us to repent of our sins and to submit our lives to Him.
- The Westminster Shorter Catechism Question 26 says Christ subdues us, rules over us, defends us, and rules over our enemies.
- Christ is victorious through us insofar as it is through our testimony about Christ that we are crushing Satan under our feet (Rom. 16:20).
- We are nourished and fed by His shed blood in the communion meal.
Application Questions:
