Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

“…for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”

Jesus is the true light which enlightens everyone and as those who have been illuminated by him, we also bear his light wherever we go.

Advent is not just a remembrance of Christ’s arrival but also his return. The parable of the wise virgins reminds us to be prepared to wait and endure until he comes again.

Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus drew Nicodemus out of the darkness of what he understood and told him that he must be born again.

Jesus asked two of John the Baptist’s disciples when they began following him, “What are you seeking?” We who follow Christ ought to ask ourselves the same thing.

John the Baptist came to know that Jesus was the Messiah by these three things: the voice, the sign and the Spirit.
