Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace

Revelation 12 gives us real cause for celebration because it tells us that the Seed of the Woman has come and conquered the Dragon.

Scripture: Revelation 12

Sermon Notes:

  1. The story of the birth of Christ is neither nostalgic nor sentimental.
  2. Likewise, the book of Revelation is a very stark and real depiction of the spiritual realities in the church and in history.
  3. The conflict between the Serpent and the Seed of the woman is finalized in the birth of Jesus (cf. Gen. 3:15).
  4. Revelation 12 gives us real cause for celebration because it tells us that the Seed of the woman has come and conquered the Dragon.
  5. We finish the year and begin the new year meditating on the victory of Christ.
  6. The victory of Christ is for us, over us, and through us.
  7. Christ is victorious for us, having cast down the accuser of the brethren, delivering us from the power of Satan (Heb. 2:14-15 ; Rev. 12:10; Col. 2:13-14).
  8. Christ is victorious over us, bringing us to repent of our sins and to submit our lives to Him.
  9. The Westminster Shorter Catechism Question 26 says Christ subdues us, rules over us, defends us, and rules over our enemies.
  10. Christ is victorious through us insofar as it is through our testimony about Christ that we are crushing Satan under our feet (Rom. 16:20).
  11. We are nourished and fed by His shed blood in the communion meal.

Application Questions:

  1. In what sense is the victory of Christ for us, over us and through us?
